WHAT IS THE ELECTRIC MOBILITY SHOWCASE?
Since 2019, EnergyLab has been working to support the growth of Cambodia's electric mobility market and the shift towards electric adoption.

Towards this ambition, the Electric Mobility Showcase (EMS) is an annual event working to increase public awareness and promote policy dialogue around electric mobility development.

It does this through bringing together a range of key stakeholders - including, government, private sector, and development partners - to participate in a range of electric mobility focused activities; such as, panel discussions, exhibitions, test driving, and presentations.

Additionally, the EMS incorporates a public facing showcase of local and international electric mobility providers, to support the promotion of, and knowledge around, products and services available to the general public.
WHY ELECTRIC MOBILITY IN CAMBODIA?
  • Reducing Air Pollution
Currently, the Environmental Performance Index (EPI) report of 2022 places Cambodia at 125 of 180 countries for air quality. A major contributor is the transportation sector and its associated emissions. With vehicle ownership predicted to grow in line with Cambodia's economic growth and development trajectory, Electric Vehicles, and a wider Electric Mobility ecosystem, will help to reduce air pollution and improve air quality.
  • Climate Change Mitigation
The transportation sector is a significant contributor to global greenhouse gasses (GHGs) emissions, accounting for approximately 15% of global emissions. Unlike traditional vehicles that rely on fossil fuels, EVs do not emit harmful GHGs that contribute to climate change.
  • Boosting Economic Growth
Importing fossil fuels to Cambodia is expensive! It is also more expensive to run a vehicle on petrol or diesel than electric, and as they have far less moving parts, they are also cheaper to maintain. The adoption of electric mobility can also create new job opportunities in various sectors such as manufacturing, maintenance, and charging infrastructure development.
HAPPENING NOW. GET INVOLVED.
EnergyLab is currently ramping-up its support to accelerate the growth of the E-Mobility sector in Cambodia. To this end, we are preparing a comprehensive program - in consultation with the Royal Government of Cambodia, the Private Sector, and Development Partners - and will be partnering with priority actors to support the development and implementation of key actions. PREVIOUS EVENTS
The Beginning: The Urban Mobility Showcase 2019

In partnership with the Ministry of Public Works and Transport, UNDP, and Grab, the UMS 2019 was established to: (1) raise awareness on issues and opportunities in urban mobility; (2) showcase regional solutions and project activities; and (3) enhance public knowledge around urban transport.

In total, 200 participants gathered to explore the offerings of 18 companies.

Building Forward: The Electric Mobility Showcase (2021 and 2022)

Following the success of UMS 2019, EnergyLab partnered with the Cambodia Climate Change Alliance and Oyika, to grow the showcase. The focus over these two years was: (1) to establish an electric motorbike sharing fleet; (2) develop an increased understanding of barriers to electric vehicle (EV) uptake; (3) increase visibility of EV careers; and (4) build public awareness of EV consumer products.

Over the two years, over 400 people joined the events, taking the opportunity to test-drive options and grow their knowledge in the market.

In addition, this project led to the establishment of the Go2 Ride-Sharing Service:
Go2 Ride-sharing service
Go2 is a ride-sharing service, allow people to rent electric motorbike as low as 4.5 cents per minute through their app. The service aims to provide available transportation at the stations in the lowest price across Phnom Penh.

EnergyLab has partnered with Oyika to support the scale up of their ride-share fleet in 2021. You can go for a ride on the bright yellow electric motorbikes all around Phnom Penh.
